HAIDA GWAII: ON THE EDGE OF THE WORLD (Canada, 2015, 75 min.) Washington, DC Premiere
Eighty miles off the Northwest coast of British Columbia, the mountainous
archipelago Haida Gwaii rises above the Pacific Ocean. These islands have been
home to the Haida people since 13,000 BC, though smallpox decimated their
population and industrial fishing and logging perpetually threaten them.
Despite all this, a vibrant community thrives there, and Haida Gwaii: On the Edge of the World celebrates the chiefs, farmers, scientists, and artists who work to secure a sustainable future for the islands and their culture. Directed by Charles Wilkinson and produced by Charles Wilkinson, Murray Battle, Kevin Eastwood, and Tina Schliesser.
